Christmas Market 2022. Which one you should pay a visit?

Perhaps the Advent and pre-Christmas mood is already slowly entering your office. However, if not, the coming pre-Christmas Prague is guaranteed to bring it. With Christmas approaching, it’s good to remember that the Czech capital will turn into a fairytale city. And there might even be snow at times. Anyway, what you won’t miss are the Christmas markets. They are once again to be seen all over Prague. And if you’re new to the area, be sure to read on as we bring you tips for the best Christmas markets in Prague.

Staroměstské a Václavské Náměstí

This is an absolute tradition. Christmas trees are already lit up in these historic places, so there’s no shortage of pre-Christmas cheer. These are probably the places where you will find the biggest Christmas markets. The two squares are a few minutes’ walk apart, so you can easily spend some time in both of them. However, you have to take into account the higher number of tourists who usually head to these places. The price is also higher at these places. After all, you are in the very centre of the city and the traditional trdelnik will be more expensive. There are also traditional craftsmen on display, which is especially appreciated by children. The markets will be at both places until 6 January.

Náměstí Republiky

Christmas markets will spring up here too. Specifically in front of the Palladium and Kotva department stores. You will have all the traditional stalls you are used to in this place. And you can also taste traditional hams or sausages. But you have to expect an increased number of people here too, as the market is located in a place where thousands of people pass through every day. You will be able to stroll through the markets on the Square of the Republic until 30 December.

Náměstí Míru

Those who can’t get enough of the Christmas atmosphere can head to Peace Square every year. Since 1998, the market has been open since 20 November, making it the first Christmas market in Prague. In addition to food or alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, you can buy candles or wreaths from Czech producers. The markets can be found on Náměstí Míru until 24 December.

Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad

If you want a place where not so many foreign tourists go, we recommend visiting this square in the heart of Vinohrady. Regularly throughout the year, you will find here popular farmers’ markets among the Prague residents. From the end of November onwards, it turns into a Christmas market. And you can stop here anytime from Monday to Sunday. The market closes at 8:00 p.m. There will be a rich accompanying programme. For example, the devil and St. Nicholas or various musical concerts. The markets then close for good on 23 December.
