Health insurance for foreigners: What should you know about it?
Health insurance for foreigners is a fundamental obligation that needs to be taken care of in time. When is a foreigner entitled to participate in public health insurance and when does he need commercial one? Health insurance for foreigners is mandatory. It is a necessary condition for obtaining a visa.
This can be done in two ways:
- participation in public health insurance
- by providing commercial health insurance
Participation in public health insurance
Two categories of foreigners can participate in public health insurance:
- persons with permanent residence
- persons without permanent residence – under specific conditions
Payment of commercial health insurance
The first thing to know about commercial health insurance is that it can be offered in two variants:
- health insurance to the extent of necessary and urgent health care
- comprehensive health insurance
Insurance in the scope of necessary care is primarily suitable only for short-term stays. If you want to stay longer in the Czech Republic, you definitely need comprehensive insurance.
Who to insure with?
Currently, there is only one option in the Czech Republic, and that is Pojišťovna VZP, a.s., which is a subsidiary of Pojišťovna VZP.
