A Schengen visa is designated for a short-term stay of a maximum of 90 days during a period of 180 days. There are several types of Schengen visas such as tourism, work, visiting family or friends, and more. A long-term visa is designated for a stay of over 90 days for one of these purposes: sports, family, study, internship, seasonal employment, or other. This type of visa requires more documentation than a short-term visa. Long-term residence is designed for persons who intend to stay in the Czech Republic for more than one year or who have been already residing in the country on a long-term visa and want to extend their stay. The purpose can be – study, business, family reunification, etc. The application process can be performed at the Ministry of Interior in the Czech Republic or the Embassy of the Czech Republic in different countries. An Employee Card and a Blue Card are a type of permit for a long-time residency in the Czech Republic where your purpose of stay is employment. Both permits are issued for a specific job position, but Blue Card applicants require higher qualifications. The application process might be performed in the Czech Republic at the Ministry of Interior in case the applicant is already staying in the country based on a different type of stay permit, or at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in another country. Temporary Residence or so-called Registration Certificate is issued at the request of an EU citizen who is intending to stay in the Czech Republic for more than 3 months. The application process is conducted by the Ministry of Interior. Foreign nationals can apply for a Permanent Residence after 5 years of continuous residence in the Czech Republic (with some exceptions). The application process is conducted by the Ministry of Interior. This type of residency requires a certificate of the Czech language examination (A2 level) with some exceptions.
